MSNBC is shaking things up with some major changes to its programming lineup. The biggest news is that Joy Reid’s show, “The ReidOut,” is getting the axe.
The show, which airs at 7 p.m. ET, will be replaced by a new program featuring Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele.
What’s Next for Joy Reid?
Reid will host her final show this week, marking the end of an era for “The ReidOut.”
While the show has had its moments, it’s recently struggled to attract viewers, with a 28% decline in total viewers compared to last year.
Reid has been known for her outspoken views and controversial moments, including comparing the Trump administration to the Holocaust and Hitler’s Germany.
New Shows and New Faces
The new show, which will feature Sanders-Townsend, Menendez, and Steele, is set to launch soon. Menendez will make history as the first Latina woman to host a primetime cable news program on MSNBC.
The show will air for two hours on Mondays and one hour from Tuesday to Friday.
Other Changes at MSNBC
But that’s not all – MSNBC is also planning to give more airtime to Jen Psaki, the current host of “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
The show, which launched in 2023, has been a ratings success and Psaki is expected to become a more prominent face on the network.
Alex Wagner, who was previously bumped from hosting a primetime program, will remain with the network as a correspondent but won’t be hosting a 9 p.m. ET program.
What’s Behind the Changes?
The changes are part of a larger shakeup at MSNBC, which is looking to refresh its programming lineup and attract new viewers.
The network is also in talks to add new talent, including Politico’s Eugene Daniels and New York University law professor Melissa Murray.
With parent company Comcast planning to spin off several NBCUniversal cable networks, including MSNBC, the network is looking to establish its own identity and separate itself from NBC News.
The Future of MSNBC
The changes at MSNBC are just the beginning. The network is planning to add a new Washington bureau and beef up its domestic and international correspondents.
With a new head of talent, head of newsgathering, and head of content strategy on the way, it’s clear that MSNBC is looking to make some big changes and take on the competition. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of MSNBC!
