After a tough year of health struggles, Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes is making a triumphant return to the stage.
The Cold Chisel frontman has been through a lot, including open-heart surgery and a hip replacement, but he’s not letting that slow him down.
Overcoming Adversity
In 2023, Jimmy underwent open-heart surgery after a bacterial infection spread to his heart valve. Later that year, while on tour, the infection reached his hip, landing him in intensive care.
But Jimmy’s a fighter, and he’s been working hard to get back on his feet. He’s even been sharing updates on his physiotherapy and rehab with his fans.
New Music and Tour
The wait is finally over, and Jimmy’s excited to announce his new album, DEFIANT, and a national tour to go with it.
The tour kicks off in Adelaide on June 7 and will make its way to Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra. “I’m so proud of this new record – all the songs mean a lot to me, and I couldn’t wait to share them with you,” Jimmy says.
The First Taste of DEFIANT
Jimmy’s already given us a sneak peek at his new album with the release of his latest single, “New Day”.
The song features country music star Troy Cassar-Daley and his wife, TV presenter Laurel Edwards, and is all about resilience and starting fresh. “When you have trouble in your life, shake it off,” Jimmy says.
“Everybody has problems, let’s face it. But it’s about picking yourself up, starting fresh, and going: ‘Here I am, I’m ready to start again. It’s a new day’.”
A New Project in the Works
But music isn’t the only thing Jimmy’s been working on. He’s also been teasing a new cookbook, posting a picture of a draft titled “Seasons on the Riverbend Recipes”.
“I get to enjoy my dinners at home now. It’s hard to have an appetite in hospital post-surgery,” Jimmy says, tagging his wife, Jane Barnes.
It looks like it’s going to be a busy year for Jimmy, but we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us!
Jimmy’s determination and spirit are an inspiration to us all, and we’re excited to see him back on stage, doing what he does best.
