The horse racing community is in mourning after the devastating loss of Tasmania's beloved champion, The Inevitable.
The pint-sized eight-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries during a fall at the Hellova Street Stakes on Launceston Cup day, which was meant to be his 44th and final start.
A Career to Remember
The Inevitable had a glittering career, with 18 wins out of 44 starts, including 10 stakes races, and over $2 million in prize money.
Some of his notable achievements include winning the $500,000 Silver Eagle and Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes in 2019, as well as finishing third in the 2023 All-Star Mile.
His impressive track record and lovable personality made him a fan favorite, and his passing has sent shockwaves throughout the racing community.
Tributes Pour In
Tributes have been flowing in for the fan-favorite, with many expressing their condolences and sharing fond memories of the little champion.
Part-owner Adam Upton said, "Very rough day yesterday. The Inevitable, you took us on the ride of a lifetime. Rest in peace pocket rocket." Tasmanian Labor leader Dean Winter also paid his respects, saying "Farewell to the little champ."
A True Champion
Commentator Jason Witham praised The Inevitable, saying, "So, so sad. RIP The Inevitable. He tried his heart out every time & flew the flag for Tassie racing for so many years.
Became a cult hero, and a genuine star of the turf. A horse that meant so much to so many, condolences I’m sure cannot dent the grief many feel tonight."
The Moonee Valley Racing Club also extended its condolences, tweeting, "The MVRC extends its heartfelt condolences to connections of The Inevitable, who sadly passed today."
A Lasting Legacy
Prominent commentator Gareth Hall shared a heartfelt tribute on radio station SEN, saying, "He was loved this little horse like no other. He was the special one to so many people in so many ways.
He was only small, but you couldn’t find a thoroughbred with a bigger heart... He was one of a kind, he was Tassie’s mighty champ. The little horse, who did the impossible."

A Bittersweet Day for Racing
Meanwhile, Distrustful Award provided some joy for the locals by winning the $250,000 Launceston Cup, upstaging a strong team of Victorian visitors.
Trainer Peter Luttrell was overjoyed, saying, "When he bombed the start again I thought if he runs a place it will be a top run but I cant honestly believe he’s won... I’ve been at it a long, long time and he’s the best horse I’ve had, so I’ll enjoy it."
Despite the sadness of The Inevitable's passing, the win was a reminder of the excitement and thrill of horse racing.
