The husband of a vibrant Sydney mum, Georgia Gonzalez, has spoken out about his devastating loss after she passed away on February 21 at the age of 35, following a courageous six-month battle with bowel cancer.
Georgia leaves behind her loving husband Xavier and their 18-month-old son Finn.
The Alarming Rise of Bowel Cancer in Young Australians
Georgia’s tragic passing highlights the growing concern of bowel cancer among young Australians. Statistics show that bowel cancer is now the deadliest form of cancer among Aussies aged 25 to 44.
This trend is not only limited to Australia, but is also being seen in over 20 countries worldwide.
Fighting Against the Odds
Despite being told her condition was “incurable”, Georgia refused to give up. A GoFundMe page was set up to help with her medical treatment, raising an incredible $130,000.
With the support of her loved ones and the donations, Georgia was able to undergo chemotherapy and holistic treatments, including acupuncture, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and infra-red sauna.
A Brave Battle Comes to an End
Although Georgia’s condition deteriorated in January, she remained positive and focused on building her strength.
Unfortunately, her body struggled to keep up with the intensity of the treatments, and she passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
Tributes Pour in for the Young Mum
News of Georgia’s passing has spread like wildfire on social media, with friends and family sharing heartfelt tributes and condolences.
Her friend Tarrah Jordan shared a video on TikTok, captioning it “Georgia, forever in our hearts”, which was quickly flooded with messages of love and support.
The Growing Concern of Colon Cancer in Young People
According to Bowel Cancer Australia, Australians born after 1990 have twice the risk of developing colon cancer and four times the risk of developing rectal cancer compared to those born in 1950.
Researchers believe that the increasing sedentary lifestyle and changes in diet, including the consumption of fatty and processed foods, may be contributing factors to this alarming trend.
Raising Awareness and Finding a Solution
As the rate of colon cancer in young people continues to rise, it’s essential to raise awareness and promote a healthier lifestyle.
By making small changes to our daily habits, such as incorporating more physical activity and eating a balanced diet, we can reduce our risk of developing this devastating disease.
Let’s come together to support those affected by bowel cancer and work towards finding a solution to this growing problem.
