Tropical Cyclone Alfred is bearing down on the south-east Queensland coast, and residents are scrambling to stock up on essentials.
Supermarket shelves are being stripped bare, with water, bread, and other necessities flying off the shelves.
Panic Buying: Shelves Emptied as Cyclone Looms
Images obtained by 9News show the alarming rate at which shelves are being emptied. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has urged supermarkets to restock items multiple times a day to meet the demand.
"It's essential that everyone has access to the basics," he said. "Make sure you have all your personal items in one place, and prepare for the possibility of losing power."
The Latest: Cyclone Forecast and Expected Landfall
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts Tropical Cyclone Alfred to change direction again today, before turning back towards the coast tomorrow or Wednesday.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall on Thursday or Friday, which could be the first time a cyclone has hit a populated area of south-east Queensland in 50 years.
