A shocking incident has unfolded in the suburb of Lavington, Albury, on the NSW border, where a man has been charged with multiple offences, including assault and arson, after a house fire killed three dogs.
The Dramatic Events Unfolded on Friday Night
Police were on patrol in Kaitlers Road around 11:45 pm on Friday when they noticed smoke billowing from a home.
They quickly rushed to the scene and called firefighters, who worked to extinguish the blaze. Unfortunately, three dogs were found dead inside the house.
A Man Arrested and Charged
Following an investigation, 28-year-old Che Kennedy was arrested at a property on Goolagar Crescent, in Springdale Heights, on Sunday at around 4:30 pm. He has been charged with nine offences, including:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
- Two counts of breaching an AVO
- Intimidation
- Arson
- Drug possession
- Three counts of animal cruelty
The Alleged Assault and Fire
Police allege that Kennedy assaulted a 34-year-old woman known to him before setting the house on fire.
The woman’s condition is not reported, but the incident has left the community in shock.
The Aftermath
Kennedy was refused bail and appeared before Wagga Wagga Local Court on Sunday. The court will determine his fate as the investigation into the incident continues.
