The Australian government has just announced a plan to give one-off Centrelink payments of $1,000 to people affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
If you're living in Southwest Queensland or northeastern New South Wales, you might be eligible for this payment.
Who is Eligible for the Payment?
To be eligible, you need to be an Australian resident or have a valid visa, and be at least 16 years old. You also need to have been badly affected by the disaster.
This could be because you're seriously injured, you've lost a family member, or your home has been destroyed or damaged.
How to Claim the Payment
You can check your eligibility and claim the payment through the myGov website from Tuesday, 11 March at 2pm AEDT.
Services Australia will also provide updates and information on how to claim. You can find more information on their website.
Additional Support Available
The Queensland government is also offering Emergency Hardship Assistance grants of $180 for individuals and up to $900 for families of five or more.
This can help with essential needs like food, medication, clothing, and temporary accommodation.
Banks Offer Support Too
Some banks, like NAB, are offering $1,000 disaster relief grants to customers who have been impacted by the disaster.
Other banks, such as Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, and ANZ, are also providing support, including payment deferrals and waiving fees and charges.
