A devastating search operation at Tinaroo Dam in Far North Queensland has come to a heartbreaking end.
The body of a 62-year-old man, who went missing on April 13 while trying to save two children on a kayak, has been found.
The Brave Rescue Attempt
The man’s heroic actions will never be forgotten. He had swum out to help the children, who were struggling on their kayaks, but unfortunately, he got into trouble and failed to resurface.
Fortunately, the kids made it back to shore safely, thanks to the man’s selfless act.
Emergency Services Spring into Action
Emergency services were quickly notified, and a massive search operation was launched.
Multiple agencies, including Cairns Water Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), joined forces to search for the missing man.
The search effort was intense, with crews combing the area until nightfall on Sunday.
The Search Continues
The operation resumed at dawn on Monday, with additional support from foot police, water police, SES volunteers, and the Queensland Police Dive Squad.
QFES swift water rescue teams also lent a hand in the search efforts.
Despite the valiant efforts of the rescue teams, the man’s body was eventually found, bringing an end to the search.
Support for the Family
The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and police are providing support to his grieving family during this difficult time.
A report will be prepared for the coroner, and the community is coming together to mourn the loss of a true hero.
