A devastating incident has shaken the small rural town of North Motton in Tasmania’s north-west, leaving a police officer dead.
The officer was attending a residential property as part of their routine duties when the fatal shooting occurred.
What Happened at the Scene
According to police, the incident took place at a property on Allison Road at around 11am on Monday.
As the officers approached the house, a member of the public allegedly opened fire, shooting one of the officers.
In response, another officer fired towards the alleged offender, who then surrendered to the authorities.
Aftermath of the Shooting
The police officer who was shot suffered critical injuries and sadly died at the scene. The alleged offender, on the other hand, did not sustain serious injuries.
The police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, but they have urged everyone to avoid the area while the investigation is underway.
