If you’re one of the many people still seeking justice for the nine-month-old baby who was brutally attacked with hot coffee in a Brisbane park last year, there’s a new update from the police.
Queensland Police Service Acting Commissioner Shane Chelepy recently spoke to 4BC’s Peter Fegan, confirming that the investigation into this heinous crime is still very much active.
A Brutal Attack that Shook the Community
For those who may not be familiar with the case, it happened on August 27, 2024, at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner, Brisbane.
A man approached a mother and her baby, who were enjoying a picnic, and poured scalding hot coffee all over the infant.
The baby suffered severe burns to his face, arms, and legs and had to undergo four surgeries as a result of the attack.
The Investigation Continues
Commissioner Chelepy praised the investigators working on the case, saying, “This was a horrible incident that happened almost a year ago, and it struck our investigators pretty hard.
I give credit to those investigators; they’re still working very hard on this. This isn’t something we’ve parked in the corner; this is a very serious offense, and they’re working hard on it.”
He also mentioned that they are working with international partners to progress the matter and get a resolution.
New Leads and International Cooperation
While Chelepy was limited in what he could reveal about the ongoing investigation, he did confirm that there are several investigative strategies in play.
When asked if there was still an operation underway, he replied, “absolutely.”
The police have released images of a man they believe was involved in the attack, and there have been reports that the suspect has fled the country.
The Hunt for Justice Continues
The case has garnered significant attention, both locally and internationally, with many calling for justice for the baby and his family.
While the police are working hard to bring the perpetrator to justice, they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
As Commissioner Chelepy said, “What I can say is we’re still working with our international partners to progress this matter, and to get a resolution here.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are committed to finding the person responsible for this horrific crime.
