After almost two decades of love, French actress Marion Cotillard and film director Guillaume Canet have announced their separation.
The couple, who share two children together, released a statement confirming their split.
A Long-Term Love Story Comes to an End
Cotillard, 49, and Canet, 52, started dating in 2007 and had become one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples.
Despite their long-term relationship, they never got married or engaged.
In a statement, their reps revealed that the couple decided to separate “by mutual agreement” and “with mutual goodwill.” The announcement was made to “avoid all speculation, rumors, and risky interpretations.”
A Professional Collaboration That Lasted
Cotillard and Canet worked together on several projects, including the 2003 drama “Love Me If You Dare” and the 2009 film “The Last Flight.”
Their latest collaboration, “Karma,” was released earlier this year.
Rise to International Stardom
Cotillard rose to international fame with roles in blockbusters like “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”
She has been praised for her work in French cinema, earning her an Oscar award.
A Look Back at Their Relationship
Prior to her relationship with Canet, Cotillard dated actor Julien Rassam and then French singer Mathieu Blanc-Francard.
Canet was previously married to Diane Kruger from 2001 to 2006.
In a 2011 interview, Canet gushed about Cotillard, calling her the love of his life.
“For me, I need to be with someone who is searching, who is wide awake,” he said.
