A firefighter has been seriously injured in a terrifying crash after a fire truck ploughed into a tree south of Brisbane.
Station Officer Mitchell Rogers, a 15-year veteran from the Queensland Fire Department, was behind the wheel when the vehicle veered off the road and slammed into a tree on Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd at Mundoolun around 9:50 am on Monday.
Rogers became trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by his colleagues who rushed to the scene.
Paramedics and a High Acuity Response Unit treated the man before taking him to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Initially, Rogers was believed to be in a life-threatening condition with lower limb injuries, but he is now in a stable condition.
The accident caused Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd to be closed for several hours, with motorists advised to avoid the area or seek an alternative route.
Investigators believe wet weather may have played a role in the crash.
The incident is currently under investigation, and more updates will be provided as soon as they become available.
