A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in the investigation into the death of missing Bundaberg teenager Pheobe Bishop, with a third person charged in relation to her alleged murder.
Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser, 30, was arrested on Tuesday evening in Bundaberg West and has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to murder.
He is also facing charges of driving without a license, fraud, and possessing drugs.
Police Release Bodycam Footage of Arrest
Police have released bodycam footage of Mittelheuser’s arrest, which shows at least four officers surrounding him outside a fast-food restaurant.
He is seen being handcuffed and placed in custody.
Mittelheuser will appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court later today.
Background of the Case
Pheobe, 17, went missing on May 15 while on her way to Bundaberg Airport to fly to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend.
Her disappearance sparked a widespread search, with her family turning to social media for help.
Her housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, were initially charged with murder and interfering with a corpse in relation to Pheobe’s disappearance. They remain before the courts.
Police alleged that the pair killed Pheobe and moved her body multiple times afterwards.
The investigation focused on the home the teenager shared with her housemates, where forensic teams searched for any signs of her.
The search efforts later shifted to bushland in Good Night Scrub National Park, where human remains were eventually found and confirmed to be Pheobe’s.
The community came together to pay their respects to Pheobe, with a private funeral held on Monday.
