Kyle Sandilands, the outspoken radio host, dramatically stormed off his show on Wednesday after being dumped from the airwaves.
The controversy erupted when he discussed the case of Beauty and the Geek star Tamika Chesser, who is accused of murder.
Radio Law Double Standards
Kyle and his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson were heavily censored the day before for discussing the case.
Kyle raged that it was unfair that television and newspapers were allowed to report on the case, but radio was held to a different standard when it came to “contempt of court.”
“Why was that dumped, censor, when I was using all the correct lingo?”
Kyle asked, clearly upset. He went on to say that the “radio laws should be overhauled.”
Kyle’s Outburst and Threat to Quit
The censor told Kyle that it was the show’s director, Bruno Bouchet, who had made the call to dump the show.
Kyle was furious, saying, “You only dump when we’ve broken the law.”
He then announced that he was leaving the show, stating, “I’m not going to waste my life coming in here when I’m being given this instruction, that instruction, this archaic law, that archaic law.”
Kyle continued, “I’m not interested in being puppeteered by losers. I’d rather be r***d in jail than be puppeteered by losers.
That’s the show ripped up. Judges can shove it in their a***, ACMA can shove it in their a***, and so can the management of the radio station.”
Kyle then said that he would be off the air until at least Monday before making his exit.
“Enjoy the rest of the week, guys. Arrivederci from me,” he signed off.
The Background of the Case
Tamika Chesser, the former reality star, was arrested on June 19 after police responded to reports of a small fire at her home.
When emergency services arrived, they found her partner, Julian Daniel Story, dismembered and missing his head. Chesser is currently being held in a mental health facility.
