Soccer star Kristie Mewis, partner of Matildas superstar Sam Kerr, has announced her departure from Women’s Super League club West Ham United.
In an emotional Instagram post, Mewis revealed that her time at the club didn’t quite go as planned, but she still learned a lot and met some amazing people.
With her newborn son, Jagger Mewis-Kerr, born just two months ago, Mewis admitted that her priorities have shifted.
A New Chapter for Kristie Mewis
“Nothing has been more important to me than football… but having my son has changed that,” she wrote.
Mewis thanked her teammates and the club for their support during her injury and pregnancy, adding that she’ll continue to fight for the betterment of the game.
West Ham United manager Rehanne Skinner paid tribute to Mewis, appreciating her contributions to the club despite her limited playing time due to injuries.
A New Normal
Skinner wished Mewis and her family all the best as they navigate their new normal, saying, “We fully appreciate that her priorities have changed, and so, whatever the future has in store for her and her family, I would like to wish them all the very best.”
Mewis had only just returned to the pitch after giving birth to her son, but it seems motherhood has taken center stage in her life.
With this emotional departure, Mewis marks the end of her short stint at West Ham United, but we’re excited to see what the future holds for her and her family.
