A massive five-vehicle crash has brought traffic to a standstill on the Princes Freeway in Melbourne’s southwest, leaving city-bound motorists stuck in gridlock.
The crash, which involved four cars and a truck, occurred just after 7 am near Kororoit Creek Road in Laverton, and has closed four lanes of traffic.
Miraculously, only one person was injured in the crash and was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to Victoria Police.
Transport Victoria has warned motorists to expect delays of up to an hour, with queues stretching back to Hoppers Crossing.
To avoid the congestion, drivers are advised to detour through Hoppers Crossing, Truganina, and Laverton North.
Meanwhile, trains on the Werribee Line are also a good option for those heading towards the CBD or inner-western suburbs.
Detours in Place as Emergency Services Work to Clear the Scene
Emergency services are working to clear the scene, and traffic is being diverted onto the emergency lane under the direction of the Incident Response Service.
Transport Victoria’s signals team is monitoring conditions in the area and will adjust traffic lights to minimize congestion on surrounding roads.
It’s unclear when the closed lanes will reopen, and traffic will only return to normal once it’s safe to do so.
