A massive fire has destroyed the main stage at Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, just hours before the popular electronic dance event was set to kick off on Friday.
The incident occurred around 6pm local time on Wednesday, with footage showing flames and plumes of black smoke engulfing the stage and spreading to nearby woodland.
No Injuries Reported, But festival Preparations in Jeopardy
According to organisers, no one was injured during the incident, but the Main Stage has been severely damaged.
The festival’s campsite, DreamVille, will open as planned on Thursday, but the fate of the festival weekend remains uncertain.
In a statement, organisers confirmed that all Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will take place as planned, and that they are working to find solutions for the festival weekend.
Italian house music group Meduza, who are due to perform on Friday, took to Instagram to update fans, saying “everybody is safe… and that’s the most important thing to be honest.”
Festival-Goers Express Shock and Concern on Social Media
Many have taken to social media to express their shock and concern, with one person writing “I feel so sorry for the Tomorrowland Crew, for everyone who had tickets for this weekend and especially for all the artists who put their heart and passion into creating and building the Tomorrowland Mainstage for so long.”
The festival is expected to attract around 400,000 people over two weekends, from all around the world.
Despite the setback, some artists are still holding out hope, with duo Vini Vici commenting “there is still hope” on their Instagram.
