A motorbike rider is in a critical condition following a collision with a car on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne.
The accident occurred near the Wellington Rd exit in Wheelers Hill at 12:47 pm on Saturday, involving a car and two motorbikes riding in tandem.
The rider involved in the collision was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The second rider, who was not injured, has been arrested by police and is expected to be questioned about the accident.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the incident, and the freeway has been closed in both directions, causing significant delays.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including Ferntree Gully Rd, Springvale Rd, and Wellington Rd, to re-enter the freeway or exit earlier at Forster Rd or Blackburn Rd to reach Wellington Rd.
Drivers heading towards the city can consider leaving the freeway at Police Rd and using the Princes Hwy and Blackburn Rd.
