A devastating multi-vehicle crash in north Queensland has claimed the lives of three teenagers.
The incident occurred late Friday night on the Mackay Ring Rd at Glenella, a suburb of Mackay, when a green Mazda 2 attempted to overtake a semi-trailer.
The Mazda collided head-on with a Great Wall Cannon traveling in the opposite direction around 10:40 pm.
Three Teenagers Die at the Scene
The three occupants of the Mazda – two 19-year-old boys and a 19-year-old girl – died at the scene.
The driver of the Great Wall, a 29-year-old man from Blacks Beach, was rushed to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.
The 68-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer, from Kelso, escaped injury.
A fourth vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max, veered off the road to avoid the wreck, and the driver was not hurt.
Investigations Underway
Heavy fog was blanketing the 100km/h stretch of road at the time, potentially adding to the danger, according to The Courier Mail.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the tragic crash.
