A devastating incident has taken place on Mexico’s Pacific coast, where a 14-year-old boy fell into a canal infested with ferocious crocodiles and was mauled to death in front of his horrified family.
Andres Alejandro Santana Hernandez, an altar boy at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, was torn apart by the animals in the waterway in Lazaro Cardenas.
Crocodiles Dragged Him into a Swamp and Tore His Body to Pieces
Witnesses described how the reptiles attacked Andres after he fell into the water, and despite his parents’ attempts to pull him out, the crocodiles dragged him into a swamp and ripped his body apart.
The tragic incident occurred on July 18, and police divers are still working to recover what remains of his body.
A Large Number of Morelet’s Crocodiles Responsible for at Least a Dozen Deaths
The area is home to a large number of Morelet’s crocodiles, known to be unpredictable and capable of overpowering cattle. They can weigh around 400lbs and are speedy predators.
In the past, at least 12 human deaths have been linked to this type of crocodile.
Investigation Underway as Cops and Water Safety Officials Warn Visitors
The teen’s death is currently subject to an investigation, and cops and water safety officials are warning visitors to stay clear of the canal’s banks, citing the unpredictability of the crocodiles.
