GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND – A police investigation is underway after a woman’s body was discovered floating in Currumbin Creek on Wednesday afternoon.
The body, believed to be that of a woman aged between 20 and 40, was found fully clothed and wearing a backpack with a rope tied at the front holding the shoulder straps together.
Residents of Whitsunday Drive reported seeing the body floating in the creek around 2:50 pm, prompting an emergency response.
One resident, John Wright, described the moment he noticed something unusual in the water. ”
I had a bit of a look at it, then went back into the house and I said to the wife, ‘Come and have a look at what this might be’,” he said.
Neighboring residents then launched a boat to investigate the object, realizing it was a body and promptly notifying the authorities.
The usually quiet and isolated area was left stunned by the discovery.
This is the third body to be found on the Gold Coast in the past five days.
Police have stated that the two previous deaths, discovered on Saturday and Sunday, were not suspicious.
Police divers searched the creek on Wednesday evening, and detectives are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on `1800 333 000` or submit a report online.
