BREAKING: Bedford Group, the second-largest employer of people with disabilities in Australia, is expected to enter voluntary administration on Sunday, affecting approximately 1400 individuals across South Australia.
The company, which has been in operation for 80 years, has been focusing on innovation to reduce its reliance on National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding models.
Despite efforts to secure a sustainable future, Bedford Group will cease operations, citing the complexities and unprofitability of the supported employment model.
“This heartbreaking decision directly impacts 1400 people with disabilities across South Australia,” said Bedford Group in a statement.
“We have advised clients, families, and staff of the decision, following an exhausting negotiation process with the state and Federal Governments, banking and commercial partners.”
Brian Mann, CEO of Bedford Group, expressed his commitment to supporting clients, residents, and staff during this challenging time.
“It is a devastating situation with vast personal impact. Bedford provides a haven for so many South Australians and has done so for the past 80 years,” Mann said.
Premier Peter Malinauskas stated that the State Government has been engaging in active discussions with Bedford regarding its financial situation and has made offers of financial assistance.
“The South Australian Government’s first priority is the care and support of the people who rely on Bedford,” Malinauskas said.
The public is urged to stay informed, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
If you or someone you know is affected by this decision, please contact Bedford Group directly for guidance and support.
