A 21-month-old girl died on Tuesday, July 22, after falling from her father’s arms while descending a water slide at Aquagan Lopar waterpark on the island of Rab, according to Croatian news outlets.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the girl, whose family has not been named, fell approximately 11 feet, 5 inches onto a concrete surface while sliding with her father.
Despite being airlifted to Rijeka Clinical Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, including brain and internal organ damage, the following morning.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
The waterpark’s owner, Josip Ivanić, described the incident as a “tragedy” and stated that nothing similar had occurred during his over 30 years of managing the park.
The girl’s father was reportedly devastated, saying “Don’t ask me anything… my daughter is dying!” as he knelt beside her after the fall.
The local police have issued a statement confirming the accident and the child’s subsequent death, but have provided no additional information.
An official investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urged to contact the local police department with any relevant information.
