Meet Norway’s Future Queen, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, as She Prepares to Start University in Australia
For royal watchers, it’s a rare glimpse into the private life of a future monarch – Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway has been spotted on campus at the University of Sydney, where she’ll soon embark on a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In a series of official photographs released by The Royal Court, Princess Ingrid Alexandra can be seen exploring the iconic Sydney Opera House and settling into university life.
The young royal has spoken about her excitement to start her studies, saying she’s looking forward to gaining “new perspectives on both European and international affairs”.
In an official statement, Princess Ingrid Alexandra expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter, saying, “I am looking forward to starting my studies at The University of Sydney.
Being a student will be exciting, and I look forward to gaining new perspectives on both European and international affairs.”
The princess, who will study social science, specialising in international relations and political economy, has also spoken about her confidence in learning a great deal during her time at university.
A royal with a passion for learning
Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s decision to study abroad is not a surprise, given her family’s history of pursuing education abroad. Her mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, also studied in Australia in the 1990s.
The princess’s grandfather, King Harald V, is 88 and currently sits on the throne, with her father, Crown Prince Haakon, next in line to succeed him.
Before starting her university journey, Princess Ingrid Alexandra completed her military service in April as an engineer soldier and rifleman.
As she begins this new chapter, the palace has hinted that Princess Ingrid Alexandra will take on more official engagements on behalf of the royal family in the years to come, but for now, her focus is on her education.
