Mollie O’Callaghan, 21, secured her 10th world title by winning the 200m freestyle event at the swimming world championships in Singapore, drawing level with Grant Hackett’s record.
O’Callaghan, who clocked 1 minute and 53.48 seconds, expressed gratitude to her coach, Dean Boxall, and the team for their support, stating that it had been a “whirlwind” coming back from injury and the Olympics.
In other events, Kyle Chalmers qualified for the men’s 100m freestyle final with a time of 47.36 seconds, while Harrison Turner, 21, won bronze in the men’s 200m butterfly with an Australian record of 1:54.17.
Meanwhile, Sam Short withdrew from the men’s 800m freestyle final due to gastro illness, suspected to be caused by food poisoning from the team hotel.
Australia’s mixed 4x100m medley team of Kaylee McKeown, Nash Wilkes, Matt Temple, and Milla Jansen finished fifth, and French swimmer Leon Marchand broke the men’s 200m medley world record with a time of 1:52.69.
In the diving world titles, Australian duo Cassiel Rousseau and Maddison Keeney won silver in the mixed 3m springboard synchro.
The silver was Keeney’s second medal of the championships after winning 1m springboard gold last Saturday.
