BOWENVILLE, QUEENSLAND – A 56-year-old pilot has died in a glider crash in a field near Wainui Soldiers Road, Bowenville, in the Darling Downs region of Queensland.
This marks the second fatal aviation crash in the region within two weeks, following a light plane crash near Oakey on July 20 that claimed the lives of two pilots, Wayne Saunders and Robert Molony.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 6:30 pm on Wednesday, with the glider crashing in a field close to the Darling Downs Soaring Club.
The Forensic Crash Unit has launched an investigation, and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
The deceased pilot, the sole occupant of the glider, died at the scene.
The authorities have issued an appeal for public assistance in locating any witnesses who may have information about the incident.
