MELBOURNE, VICTORIA – A 21-year-old man, identified as Athan Boursinos, son of a former Victoria Police officer, was fatally shot in a laneway execution in Wollert on Thursday morning, sparking fears of further attacks in the underworld.
According to eyewitnesses, eight shots were fired around 9 am, and Boursinos died at the scene.
Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack, as Boursinos was reportedly involved with street gangs and had been a person of interest in an investigation following the death of Sam Abdulrahim.
The suspected gunman fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later found burnt-out on Army St in Reservoir.
Police are still working to determine whether the car is connected to the shooting.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward, and an official request for public assistance has been made.
Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or have knowledge of the events leading up to the incident.
As the investigation continues, police are appealing to the public for help in locating the individual responsible for the shooting.
No arrests have been made, and the perpetrator remains at large.
