Sydney, Australia – Father Chris Riley, the founder of Youth Off The Streets, a renowned charity that has transformed the lives of thousands of disadvantaged young Australians, has passed away at the age of 70.
Father Riley, who dedicated his life to working with troubled youth, died on Thursday night at his home after a long period of ill health.
The charity, which he established in 1991, has grown into a network of crisis accommodation, counseling, and support services, now run by 180 staff and 250 volunteers.
Throughout his life, Father Riley was driven by his conviction that every young person deserves the chance to reach their full potential, and his tireless efforts to help them overcome bad environments, circumstances, and families that negatively impact their lives.
He famously declared, “There’s no such thing as a child born bad, but there are bad environments, circumstances, and families that negatively impact youth.”
His work has been widely recognized, earning him numerous accolades, including the Order of Australia, the Human Rights Medal, and a NSW Australian of the Year nominee in 2012.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, NSW Premier Chris Minns, and commentator Prue MacSween were among those who paid tribute to Father Riley, hailing him as a hero and a legend.
Father Riley’s inspirational work will continue to have a lasting impact on the lives of young Australians, and his legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
The charity has issued a call to action, urging the public to continue supporting their efforts to provide a brighter future for disadvantaged youth.
