Melbourne, Victoria – A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after allegedly shooting himself with a homemade gun while playing with it at a friend’s home in Seaford, Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs.
Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 4:30 pm on Sunday at a property on Glen Alvie Street, where they found the teenager with a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Authorities believe the shooting was accidental and are investigating the origin of the homemade gun and whether it was registered.
The police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
The boy, known to police for his prior violent offenses, was part of a group that ambushed Glen Eira student Benjamin Phikhohpoom outside his school in 2023, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
