Twin Tragedy: Four-Year-Old Girl Fatally Crushed at School Birthday Party
A devastating accident occurred at a school in northeastern Brazil when a four-year-old girl was fatally crushed by a dressing table during her birthday celebration, with her twin brother witnessing the tragedy.
Accident Details
Alice Brasil Souza da Paz was celebrating her birthday with classmates at CEV school in Teresina when the incident unfolded.
According to police, the accident occurred in the school playroom after another child crawled under the dressing table, causing it to topple over onto Alice, who was lying nearby.
Family’s Grief
Alice’s parents, Dayana Brasil and Claudio Sousa, had stayed for part of the celebration before leaving for work.
They received a call from the teacher a few hours later, informing them of the accident.
“We arrived in the morning with our daughter, alive and healthy, to celebrate with her school friends the birthday she shared with her brother,” Alice’s mother said.
“After the celebration, we said goodbye to our children and went to work.
A few hours later, we were called and received the news that she had died at school.”
Investigation and Aftermath
The school is fully cooperating with the investigation and has suspended all activities for the week.
It has also released a statement expressing condolences and is offering psychological support to families, staff, and the wider school community.
The case is being investigated by Brazil’s Child and Adolescent Protection Unit.
Alice’s father expressed his grief, stating, “My gift was to bury my daughter.
We lost our daughter in the place where she should have been safe and protected.
We don’t want revenge.
We want justice so that no other child goes through what our Alice went through.”
The family is also concerned about the trauma their son, Arthur, has experienced, both in witnessing the accident and losing his twin sister.
“How am I supposed to explain to a four-year-old that his sister, who shared everything with him since the womb of my beloved wife, is gone?” Mr. Sousa said.
