The earthquake, whose epicentre was located directly north of the central Kangaroo Island town of Parndana, struck around 1am at a depth of 10km.
According to Geoscience Australia, 44 people reported feeling the tremor, with over a dozen of those reports coming within half an hour of the quake, suggesting some nearby residents may have been jolted awake.
Residents Share Experiences on Social Media
Those who felt the quake took to social media to share their experiences, with some claiming to have been woken up by the tremor.
“I am in the Adelaide Hills and woke at 1am.
Now I know why,” one Facebook user commented.
Others reported hearing a “rattle noise” or feeling their sliding glass doors shake.
This marks the fifth earthquake to hit South Australia in the last week, following a magnitude 2.0 tremor recorded southwest of Hawker on Monday morning.
The earthquake did not appear to cause any significant damage or injuries, but it serves as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity.
