Australian Doctor’s Strip Club Manager Jailed for 145 Years for Serial Rape
In a shocking case, an Australian doctor’s business partner has been sentenced to 145 years in prison for multiple counts of rape and sexual assault at a strip club in Portland, Oregon.
Background
Dr. Julian de Looze, a clinical director at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, bought the strip club Stag PDX in March 2022.
He entrusted the day-to-day operations to his friend, Ali Quraishi, who was later found to be a serial rapist.
The Crimes
Quraishi used his position to prey on female patrons, plying them with alcohol and luring them to a private apartment where he would rape and film them.
He documented his crimes in a diary, which was later seized by police.
Investigation and Sentencing
After his arrest in March 2023, Quraishi was convicted of 23 charges, including first-degree rape, sexual abuse, and invasion of personal privacy.
He was sentenced to 145 years in prison, with Detective Maggie Brown describing it as the largest sex assault case she had ever worked on.
Dr. de Looze Under Investigation
Dr. de Looze is currently under investigation by Oregon’s Bureau of Labour and Industry (BOLI) over allegations that he failed to act on staff complaints about Quraishi’s behaviour.
Former staff members have accused Dr. de Looze of protecting Quraishi and ignoring their concerns.
Victims Speak Out
Several victims have come forward, describing how Quraishi would buy them drinks, claim to be the club owner, and then assault them in his private apartment.
Many of these victims have never seen the videos Quraishi made of them.
Club’s Response
Stag PDX has released a statement expressing sympathy for the victims and stating that Quraishi’s actions were in stark contrast to the club’s values.
The club has cooperated with regulators and is committed to preventing harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
Consequences
The case has had significant consequences, with former employees thanking Detective Brown for her work in bringing Quraishi to justice.
The investigation into Dr. de Looze’s role in the case is ongoing.
