Queensland Police Arrest Three Teenagers Accused of Stealing Car and Breaking into Homes
Queensland Police have arrested 61 people on 279 charges in the past week as part of a major crackdown on property crime in the state’s Far North.
The enforcement operation was detailed by officials on Monday, following the release of police bodycam footage showing the arrest of three teenagers last week in connection with alleged car thefts and burglaries.
The arrest of the three teenagers occurred last Tuesday after a police officer and his canine partner tracked them to a school roof.
Bodycam footage of the incident shows the officer ordering the youths to the ground before arresting them for the alleged unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglaries.
The three were subsequently charged with a total of 16 offences.
Targeted Operation to Continue
Far North District Officer Chief Superintendent Kevin Fitzgibbon said the recent results showed the enforcement action was “moving in the right direction.”
He stated that officers are working “relentlessly to hold offenders accountable” and will continue the operation to protect the community.
The Queensland Police Service confirmed it is using a “borderless” approach, allowing resources to be shared between districts for targeted, intelligence-driven activities including high-visibility patrols in hotspot areas like the Cairns CBD.
