Sydney Sees Second Fatal Shooting in Two Days, 22-Year-Old Man Killed
Police have identified the victim as Osama Momani, who was shot in the chest while sitting in the front passenger seat of a car in Winston Hills.
The incident occurred around 7pm, and despite receiving treatment from paramedics, Momani succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation Ongoing
Detectives from the Parramatta Police Area Command are investigating the “targeted” attack, which is believed to have been carried out by a person or persons unknown.
Superintendent Barry Vincent stated that the motive behind the shooting is still unclear, but initial investigations suggest Momani had attended the location from outside the local area.
Footage from the scene shows a light-colored sedan with a smashed front passenger side window.
Police believe there was a second person in the vehicle who was uninjured and is currently being questioned.
Several witnesses in the street are also being spoken to as part of the investigation.
Victim’s Criminal History Probed
Momani was set to face trial in the District Court over allegations of involvement in a violent home invasion in 2023.
He had been on bail awaiting trial on charges of aggravated break and enter, stalk/intimidate, robbery in company, and reckless wounding.
Superintendent Vincent confirmed that Momani’s criminal history would be investigated as part of the inquiry.
Links to Previous Shooting Unclear
The shooting follows the deadly attack on 39-year-old father Gilbert Shino outside a pub in Sydney’s inner west on Sunday night.
While police are investigating possible links between the two incidents, Superintendent Vincent stated that none have been found so far.
The latest incident has raised concerns about the growing violence in Sydney, with residents calling for increased security measures to be implemented.
