The Australian motorsport community is mourning the death of 13-year-old karting competitor Joseph Bianchini, who passed away in a Sydney hospital on Monday following a sudden illness.
Karting Australia confirmed the young racer’s death, stating he was a “much-loved” figure in the sport.
According to a statement from the sport’s governing body, Mr. Bianchini was admitted to Griffith Base Hospital in western New South Wales early on Saturday morning after his health suddenly deteriorated.
He was later flown to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, where he passed away on Monday, August 18.

Tributes have been paid from across the karting world. Karting Australia described Mr. Bianchini, who competed in the Cadet and Junior categories, as a racer whose “energy, passion and friendly nature touched many.”
He raced for Alpha Motorsport and was supported by former Super2 Series driver Matt McLean, who was among those to post a tribute on social media.
He was remembered by peers for his sportsmanship and positive presence in the paddock.
