Sydney Iconic Venue to Close Its Doors After 38 Years of Operation
The Old Manly Boatshed, a beloved northern Sydney restaurant and live music venue, will cease operations after 38 years due to circumstances beyond its control.
The venue’s owners made the announcement, expressing deep sadness and regret over the closure.
History of the Boatshed
Established in 1987, The Old Manly Boatshed was founded by Goff Burgess and Grant McMinn, with the help of friends from Manly, Surf and Rugby Clubs.
Over the years, the venue transformed from a restaurant, bar, and live music spot on Darley Road to its current form, with a tunnel dug to create its unique space.
The Boatshed has become an integral part of Manly’s cultural landscape, hosting a range of events, including live music, comedy, and dancing.
Its closure has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many residents expressing their sadness and disbelief.
Community Reaction
Locals have fond memories of the venue, with one resident describing it as an “institution.”
Another long-time patron recalled celebrating her 16th, 18th, and 50th birthdays at the Boatshed.
The venue will remain open until mid-September, continuing to serve food and entertain the community before its final closure.
The legacy of The Old Manly Boatshed will live on, with its owners and patrons cherishing the memories and experiences shared over the years.
