Chelsea and Matildas Star Sam Kerr Eyes Return to Goal-Scoring Form
After a prolonged injury layoff, Australian soccer sensation Sam Kerr is gearing up for her return to the pitch, determined to regain her goal-scoring prowess for both Chelsea and the Matildas.
Kerr, who has not played competitively since tearing her ACL in January 2024, has been working tirelessly on her rehabilitation.
The Chelsea star is now back in training with her teammates and is confident of making a successful comeback.
Goal-Scoring Expectations
In a recent interview with Chelsea’s website, Kerr reiterated her commitment to delivering goals, stating, “My contribution is goals; it’s as simple as that.”
The Australian forward, known for her prolific goal-scoring record, aims to pick up where she left off, saying, “I’ve got high expectations of myself.
I have a lot of confidence in my ability, so the contribution for me is straightforward.
It’s goals.”
Return to Team Training
Kerr expressed relief at rejoining her teammates, saying, “During an injury, you’re alone a lot.
So it’s good to be back with the girls, just doing the same training sessions as them rather than solitary rehab sessions.”
She added, “It’s nice to be back with the girls, back on the pitch, and yeah, I’m excited.
I’m most looking forward to being out there, scoring goals and having fun.”
Implications for Chelsea and the Matildas
Kerr’s return will be a significant boost for both Chelsea and the Matildas.
The English club will be keen to have her back in their attacking fold, particularly with Lauren James set to miss the start of the season due to an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, Matildas coach Joe Montemurro will be hoping Kerr can regain her form ahead of next year’s Asian Cup.
