A 74-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and three months in jail for committing new indecent acts against two young sisters, his second conviction for similar offences.
Augusto Ricardo Tamayo-Del-Solar pleaded guilty to three charges of committing an act of indecency in 2023 and was sentenced in the ACT Supreme Court.
Justice Verity McWilliam expressed concern that Tamayo-Del-Solar showed no remorse for his actions, even after previously serving time for offences against other young victims.
Background of the Offences
Tamayo-Del-Solar’s offences involved two young sisters, one of whom was groped in a lift at an event.
He made inappropriate comments to the girl, including telling her she was his “girlfriend now” and saying “bye, lovely” as he left the lift.
The second girl was touched inappropriately on two occasions, including at her home after school, when Tamayo-Del-Solar gave both girls a chocolate egg.
The second incident occurred when she met him by chance at a medical clinic.
Impact on the Victims
The victims testified in court about the trauma they experienced as a result of Tamayo-Del-Solar’s actions.
One of the girls said she hated the way he made her feel, saying she did not want to be alive anymore.
Her sister said she felt scared and unsure about her surroundings, making it hard for her to make friends.
The girls’ mother also addressed the court, expressing guilt and regret over the events.
Prior Convictions and Sentencing
This is not Tamayo-Del-Solar’s first conviction for similar offences.
In 2013, he pleaded guilty to four offences against two girls, including acts of indecency and possessing, generating, and transmitting child abuse material.
He was jailed for 12 months.
Justice McWilliam noted that Tamayo-Del-Solar had demonstrated no remorse for his actions, even after serving time for his previous offences, and that his primary concern was to protect the community.
Tamayo-Del-Solar has been diagnosed with paedophilia and has completed the Adult Sex Offenders Program.
