Jelena Dokic Hospitalised with Health Scare During US Open Commentary
In a concerning turn of events, Australian tennis great Jelena Dokic was rushed to Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital after experiencing a health scare while commentating on the US Open.
The 42-year-old former World No.4 tennis player revealed on social media that doctors discovered a non-cancerous growth on her uterus, known as a fibroid, which will require surgery later this year.
Background and Symptoms
Dokic stated that she had been experiencing unexplained symptoms for months, including heavy bleeding and flare-ups, which were initially dismissed as minor issues.
However, she encouraged fans to listen to their bodies and prioritise their health, as ignoring these symptoms could have led to more severe consequences.
“It’s all been OK until now, but the last few months, something felt off,” Dokic said.
“Something wasn’t right.”
Health Advocacy
Dokic used her platform to stress the importance of regular check-ups, scans, and tests, urging people to advocate for their own health and not accept dismissive remarks from medical professionals.
She emphasised the significance of seeking a second opinion and fighting for one’s own well-being.
Dokic’s health scare comes after a busy few months, which saw her win a Logie Award for her documentary ‘Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story’ and publicly open up about her childhood trauma and recent relationship with Yane Veselinov.
