In a shocking turn of events, a seasonal farm worker from Samoa has pleaded guilty to the rape of a teenage girl on a beach near Arrawarra on the New South Wales north coast. **Agaalofa Agaalofa**, 27, changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial at the Coffs Harbour District Court, bringing an end to the traumatic ordeal for the young victim.
The attack occurred on November 10, 2023, when **Agaalofa** approached the teenager on the beach and threw her to the ground before raping her and spitting in her face. The victim, who was able to send a partial message on Snapchat to people nearby, was found in a highly distressed state after the assault.
During the trial, Crown prosecutor David Morters told the court that **Agaalofa** did not know the victim before the attack, which occurred as the sun was setting and no one else was around. The prosecution alleged that **Agaalofa** approached the victim, threw her down on the beach, and then raped her.
In a remarkable twist, the victim was able to track down her stolen phone using the Find My Phone app, which led police to **Agaalofa**’s location in Grafton. **Agaalofa** allegedly volunteered to police that he had the phone they were looking for and that he had found it on the beach near Arrawarra three weeks prior.
DNA taken from **Agaalofa** matched some swabs taken from the victim, and he will now face sentencing in December. The defence had initially told the court that consent and whether **Agaalofa** knew the victim was not consenting would be the crucial issue to be considered.
The case has sparked outrage in the community, with many calling for stronger protections for victims of sexual assault.
