A sombre mood has descended upon the small town of Woodanilling, three hours southeast of Perth, after a horrific highway crash claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl and left four others with serious injuries.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm on Thursday, when a Mitsubishi Triton utility and a Honda CR-V station wagon collided at the intersection of the Great Southern Highway and Robinson Road.
The young girl, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene, according to WA Police. Her family members, who were also involved in the crash, are among the four people airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries.
Meanwhile, the ute driver, who suffered only minor physical injuries, was taken to Katanning Hospital for treatment.
As investigations into the crash continue, police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicles travelling in the area beforehand to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
