Blacktown City Council has launched an investigation into a horrific dog attack that left three schoolchildren mauled and traumatised in Marsden Park, Western Sydney. Two girls and a boy were chased down the street by two roaming dogs on their way home from school on Tuesday afternoon.
CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment the dogs turned on the girls, who were walking hand-in-hand along Glennabbey St. The girls can be seen screaming in terror as the dogs give chase, with one of them falling to the ground before being circled and mauled by the dogs.
Neighbours rushed to the girls’ aid, eventually managing to drag them to safety. The dogs then turned on the other girl and a boy, who were also lucky to escape injury.
Despite the traumatic ordeal, the three children were not injured, but parents have expressed concern that a similar incident could happen again. The attack has left the community on high alert, with residents saying the dogs had been seen roaming near the school in the hours leading up to the attack.
The street where the attack occurred is just a three-minute walk from St Luke’s Catholic College, and about 20 minutes’ walk from three other schools — Marsden Park Public School, Northbourne Public School, and Melonba Public School.
Blacktown City Council has deployed Council Rangers to patrol the area and is working with police, the victims’ families, and other witnesses to gather information. The council is urging the dogs’ owners to come forward, and anyone with information to get in touch “without delay” as the search for the dogs continues.
“Blacktown City Council is committed to community safety and will continue searching for the dogs involved,” a spokesperson said. “Council is working to locate the dogs and is calling on the owners to come forward.”
