Trump’s Revenge? Former FBI Chief James Comey Charged with Felonies Over Russia Investigation – As President Declares “Justice in America” Has Been Served
- Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted on two felony counts, including false statements and obstruction, in a dramatic escalation of President Trump’s campaign against him
- Trump has long assailed Comey’s handling of the Russia investigation, calling him “one of the worst human beings this country has ever been exposed to”
- Comey has denied the charges, saying he’s paying the price for standing up to a “tyrant” and declaring he’s innocent and ready for a trial
President Donald Trump has wasted no time in gloating over the indictment of his arch-nemesis, former FBI Director James Comey, who has been charged with two felonies related to the Russia investigation. In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump declared “justice in America” had been served, branding Comey “one of the worst human beings this country has ever been exposed to”.
But Comey, who was fired by Trump in 2017, remains defiant, insisting he’s innocent and ready to face trial. In a video posted to Instagram, Comey declared: “My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way. We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either.”
The charges against Comey, who served as FBI Director from 2013 to 2017, are the latest development in Trump’s long-running feud with the former lawman. Trump has repeatedly attacked Comey’s handling of the Russia investigation, which he claims was a “witch hunt” designed to undermine his presidency.
But Comey has refused to back down, calling Trump “morally unfit” for office and declaring he’s proud to have stood up to the President. In a stark warning to Trump, Comey added: “Somebody that I love dearly recently said that fear is the tool of a tyrant and she is right… But I am not afraid, and I hope you are not either.”
The indictment of Comey has been viewed with scepticism by some in the US attorney’s office handling the case, with several prosecutors expressing concerns about the lack of evidence. But Trump’s allies have hailed the charges as a major victory, with Attorney General Pam Bondi declaring: “No one is above the law… Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people.”
As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: the battle between Trump and Comey is far from over. With Comey’s trial looming, the stakes have never been higher. Will justice be served, or will this be another chapter in Trump’s long-running vendetta against his enemies? Only time will tell.
