In a heart-wrenching development, three beloved members of the reality TV family, the Putmans, have been killed in a devastating car crash in Michigan, leaving five others, including young children, fighting for their lives in hospital.
The victim’s identities were confirmed by the family, who posted a statement on social media, revealing that Bill “Papa” Putman, his wife Barb “Neenee”, and their daughter-in-law Megan were killed in the accident. The family also shared that “Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia” were hospitalised, with some in critical condition.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the fatal wreck occurred on Friday night when a commercial semi-truck failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an SUV carrying eight members of the Cass City family. Three passengers – Bill, Barb, and Megan – died at the scene, while the other five were rushed to nearby hospitals.
“We are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them,” the family said in their statement, adding: “Thank you for every prayer, message, and act of love. Your support means more than words can express.”
The sheriff’s office made a heartfelt plea to the public, saying: “We are asking the public to please pay more attention when driving. We are having far too many crashes that are destroying people’s lives.”
The Putman family rose to fame in 2017 with TLC’s Meet the Putmans, which documented their unique lifestyle of 25 people living together under one roof. Although the show only lasted one season, they later rebooted the series on YouTube in 2021 as Growing Up Putman.
Fans took to social media to share their condolences, with one supporter writing: “I’m incredibly shaken to hear of this great tragedy. Your sweet Neenee, Papa, and Aunt Megan leave such a beautiful legacy and testimony.” Another added: “Loved you all since your show and I’m heartbroken for you … prayers for all of you for peace and comfort.”
