The quiet suburban community of Bulimba in Brisbane has been left reeling after the tragic discovery of a mother and her young child found dead in a luxury Airbnb mansion.
The 35-year-old mother and her child, whose age has not been released, were discovered by police in the $1,000-a-night property on Wednesday morning. Neighbours reported hearing nothing unusual on the night before, and the mansion’s owners were said to be “shocked” by the discovery.
Police were called to the property after a concerned neighbour reported that the mother had not been seen for several days. When officers arrived, they found the bodies of the mother and child inside the mansion.
“It’s a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased,” a police spokesperson said. “We’re working to determine the cause of death, but at this stage, there are no suspicious circumstances.”
The Airbnb mansion, which boasts stunning views of the Brisbane River, was reportedly booked for a short-term stay. The owners of the property were said to be “stunned” by the discovery, and have been cooperating fully with police.
As the investigation continues, the community of Bulimba is left to mourn the loss of a young mother and her child. “It’s just devastating,” said one neighbour. “You never expect something like this to happen in your own backyard.”
The cause of death is yet to be determined, but police say they are not treating the incident as suspicious. An autopsy will be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
In the meantime, the community is coming together to support the family and friends of the deceased. “Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” said a local councillor. “We’ll do everything we can to support them in the days ahead.”
