A terrible accident has shaken the quiet suburb of Bellambi, south of Sydney, after a toddler was run over by a car on a suburban street. The three-year-old boy was airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital with serious head and facial injuries.
The dramatic incident unfolded about 9am on Wednesday, when the little boy was found next to a car on the street. Witnesses rushed to the scene, with one describing the traumatic moment: “Came out this morning after hearing yelling and there was a little boy under the car. It was pretty bad. Crying, screaming, making a lot of noise.”
Members of the public helped move the boy from under the car, and intensive care paramedics rushed him to a nearby oval on Bott Rd, where he was airlifted to hospital for urgent treatment.
The 64-year-old female driver was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. A crime scene was established, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Anyone with information, dashcam and/or CCTV footage in relation to the incident has been urged to come forward. The accident has shocked the quiet suburb, particularly as it occurred during school holidays when many children are playing on local streets.
