Thousands of Commonwealth Bank customers were left reeling on Thursday after the bank’s online banking system crashed, leaving them without access to their money. “Yep, overseas and got no money,” one customer wrote on X, highlighting the severity of the situation. Another customer said they were “so glad” they saw the news before heading out, adding “I’m bringing cash”.
Others shared their personal struggles, with one customer revealing they were unable to pick up their dogs from the groomer due to the outage. “I can’t pick my dogs up from the groomer cause I can’t transfer and pay the groomers,” they said.
The bank’s ATMs were also affected by the outage, although CommBank has said they are being restored. In a statement, the bank apologised for the impact and said they were “urgently working to fix” the issue.
“Some of our services are currently unavailable, and we’re urgently working to fix this,” the bank said. “We apologise and appreciate your patience.”
