BOMBSHELL EXPOSE: NT Opposition Leader Selena Uibo Embroiled in VIP Chauffeur Service Scandal – Taxpayers Foot the Bill for Her Private Joy Rides!
- Selena Uibo admits to misusing taxpayer-funded VIP chauffeur service for personal trips, including visits to restaurants and a medical centre.
- The NT Opposition Leader has repaid $655 for the private trips, but insists she won’t resign despite “blurring the lines” between professional and personal use.
- This is not the first time an NT politician has been caught out for misusing taxpayer funds – Deputy Opposition Leader Dheran Young and Labor MLA Chansey Paech were previously scrutinised for fuel costs on personal trips.
In a stunning admission, NT Opposition Leader Selena Uibo has confessed to misusing the taxpayer-funded VIP chauffeur service for her own personal gain. The explosive revelations come after an ABC Freedom of Information request uncovered logs detailing her private joy rides, which included visits to restaurants and a medical centre. The trips, worth $655, have been repaid, but the damage to Uibo’s reputation may be irreparable.
In a damage control press conference, Uibo apologised to Territorians for her “poor decisions”, saying she had “blurred the lines” between professional and personal use.
“I was made aware by my office that there was an FOI and upon reflection and review of my travel in the last 12 months as the opposition leader, I have seen that I have blurred the lines between professional and personal use,” she said.
Uibo’s misuse of the VIP service is not an isolated incident. Deputy Opposition Leader Dheran Young and Labor MLA Chansey Paech have previously been scrutinised for charging taxpayers thousands of dollars for fuel while travelling interstate on personal trips.
The question on everyone’s lips is: how long will it take for Uibo to take responsibility for her actions and step down as Territory Labor leader?
When questioned about her future, Uibo defiantly declared she had the full support of her caucus and would not resign. “I have met with my caucus team, and we have agreed that for the remainder of the parliamentary term I will no longer access the white car service in my role as opposition leader,” she said. However, many are left wondering if this is enough to restore public trust in her leadership.
