Heartbreaking Plea from Family Friend as Cops Scale Back Search for Missing Four-Year-Old Gus Lamont: ‘Stop Spreading Cruel Theories About His Devastated Family’
- Cops have scaled back the search for missing four-year-old Gus Lamont, sparking fears the worst may have happened
- A family friend has pleaded with the public to stop spreading ‘cruel’ online theories about the boy’s disappearance
- Gus’s family has been left ‘heartbroken’ by the speculation, with a friend describing them as ‘kind’, ‘gentle’, and ‘trustworthy’
- Police have allocated massive resources to try and find the boy, but so far, nothing has been found
In a desperate bid to find missing four-year-old Gus Lamont, a family friend has issued a heartfelt plea to the public to stop spreading ‘cruel’ online theories about the boy’s disappearance. Fleur Tiver, a longtime friend of the Lamont family, spoke out as cops scaled back their search, saying the speculation is causing immense pain to the already-devastated family.
‘There is no way they’ve harmed this child,’ Ms Tiver said, addressing the conspiracy theories that have emerged online. ‘The family would not have harmed this child even if the world was about to come to an end, which it really has now for them.’
Gus was last seen playing in the sand at his family’s sheep station, about 40km south of Yunta, on August 27. Despite a massive search effort, nothing has been found, and police have now begun to scale back their search.
SA Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott announced the decision on Friday, saying ‘we’ve all been hoping for a miracle, but that miracle has not eventuated’. He added that investigations into the tragedy would still continue, but the search for Gus had been scaled back due to a lack of leads.
Ms Tiver believes that Gus could still be alive and hiding somewhere on the family’s 60,000ha outback property. ‘If he just got into a little creek down under a bush and has just hidden there – and isn’t running around and getting dehydrated – he could be hiding somewhere,’ she said.
Former neighbour Royce Player, who helped with the search efforts, also expressed his hopes that Gus could still be found alive. ‘He’s not very big, so it doesn’t hurt to backtrack and go over your tracks several times,’ he said.
The Lamont family has released a photo of Gus, but it has prompted unwanted calls from the public, with Senior Constable Peter Williams urging people to only contact police with factual information, not opinions.
As the search for Gus continues, the community remains in shock, with many holding out hope that the little boy will be found safe and sound. But for now, the Lamont family remains in the dark, waiting for any news about their beloved son.
