BROTHER’S CHILLING THEORY: Dezi Freeman, Accused Cop Killer, May Have Died on Mountain Six Weeks Ago, Says Family Member
- Freeman’s brother, James Filby, believes he may have perished in the Victorian high country, bringing an end to the six-week manhunt
- Filby shares a heartfelt message, saying he hopes his brother has finally found peace, despite his alleged crimes
- New footage emerges of Freeman as a loving family man, visiting his newborn nephew, contradicting his image as a ruthless killer
The brother of Dezi Freeman, the accused cop killer who has been on the run for six weeks, has made a shocking claim that could bring an end to the massive manhunt. James Filby believes his brother may have died on Mount Buffalo, near his property in Victoria’s high country, just days after he allegedly shot dead two police officers.
“I hope he has peace now. I imagine his last hours … were cold, lonely, fearful,” Filby said in a message made public by pro-Russia activist Simeon Boikov. “What Dez did was wrong, but he’s my brother and I miss him.”
Freeman, 56, has been evading authorities since Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 34, were killed during a warrant service at his semi-rural property in Porepunkah on August 26. Despite throwing hundreds of resources at the search, police have scaled back their efforts in recent weeks.
In a stunning twist, Filby revealed that his brother would have wanted to be buried on Mount Buffalo, close to his home, and never found by police. “But we need closure,” he added.
New, never-before-seen home videos have also emerged, showing a different side of Freeman as a loving family man. In the footage, he is seen visiting his newborn nephew, cooing over the baby’s arrival. “Crikey, look at this little guy,” Freeman exclaims. “Isn’t he a beauty.”
Freeman’s case has sparked widespread outrage and concern, with many calling for him to be brought to justice. While the police investigation is ongoing, Filby’s theory may bring some closure to the families of the slain officers and the community at large.
